It's that time again. The flu season usually sparks a lot of debates (vaccinations, cleanliness, etc.), but I like sticking to the basics (they're cheaper). Prevention is the goal. Here are some helpful reminders for fighting the flu...along with other ailments that come around during this time of the year.
1) WASH YOUR HANDS! - ALWAYS wash your hands. How you wash your hands actually determines how much/what kind of germs are left on them. Remember these steps when in a public place: - Water on and rinse hands. This helps spread the soap into the crevices of your skin...which act as breeding ground for bacteria. - Soap and later up thuroughly. Make sure you lather for 15-20 seconds minimum. Popular posters in food service establishments say to sing "Happy Birthday" twice for the full effect. - Rinse. Self-explanatory. - GRAB DRYING APARATUS, dry up, then turn off the faucet. In public places, GRAB YOUR PAPER TOWELS BEFORE YOU TURN OFF THE WATER. The faucet is the first thing that is touched...and it's touched with dirty hands. - DO NOT THROW AWAY THE PAPER TOWELS! Think about it...in a public restrooms, not everyone washes their hands. So...still thinking of grabbing that dirty door handle? Use the towel for that. -Throw away paper towel.
2) Sneeze/cough into something. Studies have shown (that I'm not looking up because I'm too lazy) that sneezing in your shirt cuts down on spreading viruses and bacteria into their air. Next best thing is into a handkerchief or tissue. Hands are ok (remember to sanitize!). Open coughs and sneezes...will infect your entire workplace/household. Your coworkers/family will hate you after the incubation period.
3) Sanitize frequently. Hands...every so often. Once every hour or other hour works for me. Hand sanitizer doesn't necessarily kill all germs, but it cuts them down and it helps. Keyboards and mice could also use a wipe down every now and then. Same with phones and other items you touch on a frequent basis.
4) Just be clean.

Alex from work forwarded me to a link on KENS 5 that the Lingerie Football League is expanding to Houston. I remember reading about this some time ago and thought, "Nah...this is another gimmick...just like XFL." So I did a YouTube search. Damn...if I win the lotto, I'm buying seasons tickets...for a lifetime!
This is Seattle vs. San Diego. Trust me...watch it all the way. The hits...are just awesome (for their weight class).

Shaved head or no shaved head? I'm no longer doing field work...no need to be "presentable".

Yeah...these last couple of days have been...eventful. This post is mostly a bitching session, so feel free to skip and disregard. It all started on Saturday. Because of prior events, I was off during the day. However, it rained this past Friday...and along with those sprinkles came an assload of wind...that just happened to blow down a tree in my back yard. So I had to wake up early and cut the bastard down. My neighbor's nephew helped since it grew between our fence. I have to say...for a junk tree, it was a pain in the ass to cut. It was extremely dense/heavy...made me wonder what kind of wind really blew threw my neighborhood. Other trees were knocked down. One was uprooted on Malone. Either way, it was a bitch to cut and haul off. It took about two hours.
Afterwards, I rested before hitting up Domino's. On my way in for my shift, I heard a loud POP from under my hood. I thought nothing of it since tons of stuff fly into my hood on a frequent basis while delivering. When I got to work, I decided to take a peek under the hood...as a precaution. I was thankful that I did...because I found my A/C-Alternator belt ripped to shreds and hanging on by one thread. Yeah...I had to go home and replace the belt. I would be kind of hard to drive a vehicle without generating electricity. So that took about an hour to do (thank you Honda for your magnificent tension system!).
The next day, I was spent. I was just drained from everything I did on Saturday. I have absolutely no idea how I managed to last at Domino's that day, but I did. It felt like I was hit by the flu...sans symptons. But it was just pure exhaustion.
Monday was a bit better...until I was hit by exhaustion again toward the end of the day. I had a vision exam and bought some glasses (flex card project is going well), but I felt just as bad as I did on Sunday. I didn't think the sun would hit me that much...or maybe I'm more lazy that I thought I was. Either way, it sucked.
But not as much as yesterday. The root of my problems...my lower back was strained. That's where all of my exhaustion and strength was being drained. Yesterday was a good day overall, but my lower back was so damn sore and it felt like it was pinching my right leg nerve. It loosened up after a while, but hell...it was annoying the living shit out of me.
Today, I'm planning on addressing all of my issues with my doc. I have my physical today. Hopefully I won't hear that I'm dying from having my kidneys pummeled by a gorilla while I was sleeping over the weekend.

Well...I went to my dental exam. I wasn't really nervous...I have never had a problem with dentists. I was more concerned because I hadn't been to one in a LONG time (since I was 17). I guess I was more curious as to how much damage had been done and what would the procedures be to correct the problems.
It started off with x-rays...that showed no problems at all. Gums and roots were fine...none were crazy crooked. Then the dentist saw me...and recorded every single filling, cap, and extraction I had into my chart. He asked if I took really good care of my teeth. I replied that I brush every day...but don't floss because my hands are too fat. He chuckled and asked when was the last time I had seen a dentist. I told him just over 10 years. He asked if I was lying and I said no. I asked why...and he said there was tartar build-up along the gum line and back of the bottom set of teeth (which is normal...which is why a cleaning is recommended every six months) however that my build-up looked like 2-3 yrs without seeing a dentist. Also...no cavities or other issues. Gums were fine...no infection.
Yes...I felt a swell of pride. But it's still bad...I have been insured on a constant basis since I was 20 and I never took the time to see a dentist. I'm kind of glad I did today. The only thing I didn't miss was the flavor of the paste the hygenist used. That shit HAS NOT changed at all. Other than that, it went well.
The problem? EVERYTHING was covered by my insurance. No additional work needed. I didn't spend a dime. I NEED TO SPEND THIS MONEY SOMEHOW!!! Hjhdailusdnhbuargvouahrnibua213/'4!!!!!!!

Well...the end of the fiscal year is almost here. That means I had to review what I had leftover in my flexible spending account. I budgeted for $1,500.00. Of course, my clone didn't get that sick. I have yet to visit a doc (scheduled an appointment for the 22nd) and a dental appointment tomorrow (vision will be within the next two weeks). So now the problem...I have a little over $1,000.00 to spend...by August 31st...or it goes bye bye. SO...my ex and I were reviewing what OTC items are covered. First aid kits, bandages, OTC medicines, and other items were covered (I'm also going to buy a blood pressure monitor...might as well...it's covered too). However, I saw a section for birth control...and condoms were on there. Condoms...WHY THE HELL DIDN'T I KNOW THIS SOONER?! That's like...50 or 60 bucks that I could have used right there! Also, Christian Science practitioner services were listed. WTF is that for? Anywho...I get to go medical supply shopping. I'm thinking of buying myself a prosthetic arm. That'd be sweet!

So yesterday I get a call from my mom. She's freaked out because they broke into a neighbor's house. At approx. 11:30 a.m., some fool busted through the back door and made out with a 42" flat screen, jewlery, cash, and kitchenware. I mean wtf?! A while back, someone broke into another neighbor's house, held an 82 yr old woman at gunpoint, and cleaned her out...even took the fridge. What...the...FUCK!! WHO THE FUCK STEALS A FRIDGE...AND KITCHENWARE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
So yeah...after a serious discussion (that lasted two minutes), we decided to go buy guns. She got a Taurus .38 SPL (http://www.taurususa.com/products/product-details.cfm?id=291&category=Revolver). I was concerned about her arthiritis and the recoil...and the muzzle flash for her eyes, but it's a medium-sized barrel...that and she has experience with revolvers. As for myself, I went with the .40S&W cal Walther P99 AS (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10002&catalogId=13152&langId=-1&productId=58948&tabselected=over&isFirearm=Y&parent_category_rn=43803). It's so damn beautiful. Little did I know the airsoft version I already had closely resembles the design (magazine release, slide lock, etc.). We're supposed to go test them sometime soon. I'm planning on Sunday.
So yeah...I'm REALLY thinking about abandoning the area I grew up in. It's such a shame.

I just got back from watching Wolverine. The best way I could describe it is this...let's say if my daughter wanted to be in a play. She studies her lines for Jack and the Bean Stalk...she remembers her places...and then she does the play. You watch the play...but are felt somewhat odd. She does horribly...but I'm still proud of her and happy to see the play. Yes...I know. It's confusing. But I'm willing to be that you would probably be walking out at the end confused as well. You probably wouldn't know what to think. It could be a month from now...and I still wouldn't know what to think.

Well...the past two weeks, I put in 82 hours at Domino's...not including ACCD's (I mean ACC...I mean Alamo Colleges) 80. So...as always...that means a lot of driving time. I knocked in about 1800 miles in two weeks. Sometimes it's demoralizing...sometimes it's uplifting. I try to have fun. I mean...I don't need the money, but it's always nice to have a little cushion (especially in these rough times).
So, I started taking pics while on the road. I really don't have much time to get a great shot, but I do what I can. Most are kind of like the windshield shot I did when the flood hit back in '07. Why am I doing this? I see soooooo many odd things when out and about. All sorts of weird accidents, weird dancing (which I still need to upload from my phone), weird cars (i.e. - rims bigger than car!). I don't have much of that now...but if I come across it, I'll share it. Warning...these are pretty large files. ( So now...amateur photo hour! )

Because I'm retarded (and because...for some reason...this is something my memory can't retain), who is going to A-kon? I know Jose, Amanda and Ken are going. I can't remember who else.

Right now...I hate Discount Tire...with immense anger and a burning passion greater than a thousand suns. Those fuckers stripped my lug nuts. Not ONLY did they strip my lug nuts...they also tore the threads off of my wheel studs. How did I find out? After changing my brake pads. The damn nuts wouldn't come off. Having to force them off is going to cost me. I mean seriously...how hard is it to turn a few lugs by hand before using the air-drill? It doesn't take a fuckin genius to figure this out! FUCK!!!!!
So now...I have to get creative just to replace the studs. Service manual says I have to remove the bearings to change out the studs. As the south sider I am, I'm putting the car in neutral to turn the rotor to knock them out from the space left open on the dust shield. While I'm at it, I can take this opportunity to properly bleed the lines and swap the rotors. Eh well...it's relatively cheap (total for parts: $89.00; elbow grease (labor): free!)...but still a pain in the ass. Future personal mental note: avoid Discount Tire.
What a way to start my b-day week!

Sorry...I haven't had the bug to write much on here lately. So let me bring everybody up to speed.
* I've picked up a second job...delivering pizzas again. Yes...I know...I don't know why I do it either. Delivering pizzas. There are reasons why I need a second job (MONEY!). But why delivering pizzas? I don't know. Maybe I like driving...60 mph...in a 35...jumping hills and drifting turns. So yeah...if you see a tan Honda with a Domino's topper around the North Star - Quarry area, that's probably me trying to get an order to it's destination in a timely manner. I've got 30 minutes!
* Main job is okay. As most of you may know from Jose's postings, a manger from our area has transferred to a campus (I still refuse to call them a "college"). That eased the strain on me for a bit, but I still have projects to finish. Going on trips to Kerrville for support isn't making it any easier. Although the foilage is pretty damn nice during this time of year...so is the BBQ.
* My clone is doing wonderful. She's already been categorized as a second-grade reader. She has the bug, ya know? Every sign we pass, she reads it. It kinda sucks though because I had to spend 45 minutes explaining the Amber Alert system to her. She's doing well in math, too! Which leads me to her x-mas present. I'm thinking of buying her a laptop. Any pros/cons? I'm probably going to get her a low-end Dell Studio model. Hopefully I can talk to my Dell rep from work to see if he can get me a deeper price cut.
* I'm going to do the Pub Run again this coming First Friday. So if you're on Alamo around 8:00 - 10:00 p.m., be on the look out for me and buy me a beer. I'm gonna be thirsty!

I smoke...yes it's bad. Yes, studies have proven for second hand smoking to be harmful. There is this outdoor foyer that everyone used to go to for a smoke break...until the Board passed a resolution stating that no smoking is to take place on ANY ACC grounds (students, factulty and staff included). So over here...we resort to smoking close to Motel 6. However...this is what it really feels like.
If you can't tell...I love this show...a lot.
